Teaching and Workshops

I have a First Class Honours Degree in Broadcasting (University of Leeds, 1996), a Masters Degree in Creative Writing (University of East Anglia, 2004), a PhD in Drama and New Media (University of Ulster, 2014) and I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I began my teaching career in London as Senior Editor at Handheld History, recruiting and teaching writers how to adapt their practices for new media platforms. I started teaching scriptwriting at Adult Learning Centres in Greater London.

At the University of Ulster, I taught 'Issues in Performance' in the School of Creative Arts and Technologies and completed the HEA course 'First Steps to Learning and Teaching'.

I am currently Writer In Residence at Down Community Arts where I facilitate creative writing workshops with adults and I am editing a book based on participants' work. I am also facilitating workshops in schools with teenagers as part of the Community Arts Partnership's Poetry In Motion scheme. Last year I ran a series of workshops for Open Arts at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, on scriptwriting and performance devising.

Tourism and Heritage

Aside from my dramatisation of history (above) and production of the Ulster-Scots Heritage Trail (see 'Production'), I have written a variety of tourism guides. Most recent are three guides in County Down for the Royal Geographical Society's Discovering Britain website:

Quoile River by Downpatrick

Natural Resources in the Mournes
